Evaluation Q7: What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

I have learnt a lot since the prelim task till now. for example when we were filming our prelim there was a number of mistakes that we made e.g when we were filming the prelim the camera was quite shaky and un-study with made the film look unprofessional but when we were
filming the interview room scene again for the opening sequence we used a tri-pod which helped us to film the footage properly and securely without it looking unprofessional.

Another mistake we learned from during the time we were filming our prelim is that when we were filming the interview room the camera we had was fulty as it had no sound so it meant that we couldn;t use the footage we took. so we also learned from that mistake by testing out the equipment to see if its working properly before filming.


Another mistake that helped us to learn and develop our skills more as media student was that in our prelim we made a big mistake when we were doing our match on action. this is because we forgot to keep the main character in the shoot when he was meant to be in it. we learned from this mistake because when we were doing this scene again for our opening sequence we made sure to do a lot of planning and preparation to we film the scene correctly.











Evaluation Q6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For us to be able to create our opening sequence we used the following technology to help us to this. Some of the technology we used were:
I-movie -  This tool was very helpful for us to use.This is becuase we used imovie to help use to edit cut  and finalise our film and put it together.

I tunes -  We used i tunes to help use get sound track that we can use it our film such as the police serin in our opening sequence.

Gimp - We also use gimp to help use to edit our logo (wild wolf logo) for our opening sequence however we were un able to use this logo in the final opening sequence because it made the  film go over thetime limit and the were some technical problems with it.


You tube - We used youtube to help research our work such as our opening sequence and our pitch and group discussions and we also used it to get audience feedback and response and to make our work accessible for everyone to see and use.


Video Camera -We used the video camera to help us with our coursework by using it to film our opening sequence and preliminary task.

Blogger - Blogger was an important tool for us to, use this is because we used blogger to help us communicate with our group and the rest of the class as well as use it to help us get audience feedback on our work, and we also used blogger to help us out side class room and in class with our coursework.

Tri-pod we use the tri-pod to help us film our opening sequence this was especially useful for certain parts of the film as their weren't enough people avalible to film the scene this tool help us it meant that the scene could still be film properly with the tri-pod.


Mac -The main equipment that we use was the mac,We use this to help us upload our film on to i-movie so we could edit it and to help us upload our films on to our blogs and our you tube accounts. We also used the mac to help us with our coursework

Google - We used google to help us research and gather information about our coursework like the genre that we will be using and the types of films in that genre that are successful and what they have done to become successful. We also used google to find out things like the history of  film industry and we also used google to help to curry out our own research like our questionnaire.

The main audience that this film is aimed at are men between the ages of 16-28. this is because they are the group of people who are most likley to be intreasted in a film like ours in that type of genre. so they are type of people that we must try to attract and appeal our film to. We know that this group of people are our target audience becuase of all the research we have done for example we made a questionniare and distributied around to people and the people that were most intereaseted in crime/ ganster films were men between 16-28 so we have made sure to do alot of research in order to help us indentify our ideal target audience.

Some of the similarities between our main charater and the one which is in another film (shank) is the type of costume that they both wear. both these charater wear clothes that are typical used to represent the streets like hoodies,trainers and baggy clothes.This also links in to the apprence of those charathers because the charaters are dressed in this way to provge a certain reaction from people which is fear they do this because it gives more power.

Another similarity between both of these charathers are the types of roles that they play within the films. both of these charather play the main role in the film which means that the story therefore revoles around them.
It is an important convention that the main charaters in a film from this genre are usually strong and tough even though they are bad at the beginining of the film they usually end up being the hero at the end  of the film. However we have tried to challenge this covention by having our main charater have a higher authority over them (the police) so that he is not represented at really though and stronge.Although their are some conventions that we have stuck to like the convention that someone always has to die at the end of the film.We have done this by having the main charater die at the end which can be a common convention used in this type of genre of film.

Evaluation Q1: In what does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?



1) The film title shank comes from a slang meaning to stab someone. This title really fits in to the convention of the genre we are using because the title connotes that the film is about gangsters, crime and death. this is exactly what we have tried to do by making the title of our film live by the streets, die by the street in order for us to be able to stick to this convention.

2) We used similar setting and location that where used in shank such as street and building estates like flats (lago tower).We used these types of locations they are usually used in films of this genre as they are usually associated with crime and proverty which fits in well with our film and the story line quite well.

3) We used costumes and props from kidulthood this is because the characters in kidulthood wore clothes like hoodies, hats etc. this are also a common conventions of crime films as those type of clothing are usually associated with crime and fear.So we made sure to stick to this convention by having our main character dress in this type of clothes.

4)  For camera work and editing we used shank as well as a guide to what kind of camera work and editing is expected from a film in this genre.This is because this film captures a lot of different shot types and camera work to create the atmosphere of a crime / gangster genre film.

5) We decided to use kidulthood for title font and style. this is because of the colour types of colours used for example film of this genre usually use a lot of black to connote death and black and white is also used to connote good vs bad (evil, vs hero in the film)  So this we why we decided to use this type of colour and title scheme for our film.

6) We used 4 3 2 1 for this, this is because the opening of their film is very good as it tells us a story and immediately shows us it's a crime film just by looking at the opening sequence. also 4 3 2 1 is also good as it challenges the convention of typical crime films by showing the film backwards and flash forwarding to the end at the beginning of the film before telling us the whole story.

7) We used adulthood because this film clearly shows the genre of the film 

8) We used kidulthood to show how characters are introduced this is because at the beginning of the film all the main characters are shown.

9) We used shank to show special effects, although films of this genre do not really use a lot of editing in the films shanks have managed to use settle editing technics to show what type of film it is and it and they also have used editing to help tell the story in the film for example the editing technic used to show london 2015 helps tell the story in the film by letting us know the film is set in the future.
